Embroidery Sewing Machines – Have a Lot to Offer

March 4, 2010

The times, they have changed. In the world of embroidery sewing machines the same is true. The embroidery sewing machines of today are equipped with computers, USB ports, and a number of other options that make embroidery as simple as designing the pattern in some cases.

There are some features that are should be noted though. These are the features that may have the greatest impact on the quality of the projects that you create with the machine you choose. These may also have the greatest impact on factors such as the time required to complete a project and the ease with which you complete a project with.

Key Features

Among the largest is the area that the machine can embroider. Since embroidery does not usually cover the entire piece the necessity of a large embroidery area is not always present. In come cases though the area serviced by a machine in a single setup may be as small as five by seven inches though. If you work with larger designs and do not want to have to move the material often you may want to seek out embroidery sewing machines that can service much larger areas.

The next of these key features is the numbers of needles that the machine has. A single needle is a common option for home units. That may prove to be sufficient for many of your projects. If you commonly use multiple threads though you may want to search for a unit that offers multiple needles. There are some units that have four needles and others that have still more. With multiple needles, multiple threads can be installed at one time. This can reduced the possibility of damaging the piece while changing threads or resetting the position, if necessary. If the machine has an auto thread-change capability then there is often the probability of higher quality and greater speed in completion of the project.

Interface is quickly becoming an important consideration. Many of the embroidery sewing machines that are available today have touch-screen interfaces. If you are not comfortable with the interface, you may not be as effective when using the machine. There is the possibility of learning to use an interface and some units may offer a design that can easily serve as a stepping stone from older to more modern machines. If you are looking to try something out temporarily tell the sales person you are working with.

Design

Much of today’s design is done in digital format. A number of people find that they can create more detailed pieces this way. You may find that developing your computer skills may help you in creating designs. There are also many sources for free designs available as a result of the digital format. Learning to embrace and welcome that capability may prove to help your embroidery blossom. You may also find that many of the designs that you view serve as inspiration for new designs of your own. Sharing your designs with others can prove a fun way to get more from your embroidery as well.
