What is Burj Dubai

March 5, 2010

Burj Dubai, now known as Burj Khalifa, is the tallest building and the tallest free standing tenement in Dubai and the world. It stands at more than 800 metres, or 2625 feet, and has more than 160 stories. This makes it the building with the highest number of stories in the whole world. Not only that, it also holds the world record for the highest occupied floor, highest observation deck, and the tallest service elevator. Its elevator has the longest distance of travel in the world.

Here are the categories by which Burj Dubai was pronounced the highest building in the world. By these, it was measured against all real estate in Dubai and the world. All about Burj Dubai at http://www.marhabahome.com.

Architectural Top

It was measured from the lowest pedestrian entrance to the building’s architectural top. Architectural top refers to the actual constructed highest point of the building, such as spires. It does not include functional or added equipment such as flagpoles, signs, or functional devices.

From Height to Tip

The measurement is based on the lowest significant entrance to the highest part of the building. This includes anything added on to the building apart from the architectural top. Antennae, functional equipment, and signs are included.

Occupied Floor

The highest occupied floor is measured from the lowest open-air entrance to the highest floor that is consistently occupied, excluding the maintenance areas.

One of the primary attractions of Burj Khalifa is the observation deck. From here, you get the ultimate experience in a high-rise view from the top. No tour of Middle Eastern real estate is complete without a visit to this deck.

The Observation Deck Experience

Starting at the lower ground level of the Dubai mall, you embark on your journey upwards to the 124th floor while watching a multimedia presentation of Dubai’s history as well as the wonders and origins of Burj Dubai.

The travelator, which is sixty-five meters long, transports you from the reception area and allows you to view Dubai’s history. You will be taken to a strategic viewing point where you can see the Burj Khalifa at its most flattering and impressive angle, where its overwhelming height is framed by a skylight.

You then embark an elevator that travels at the speed of ten metres per second. Glass walls from floor to ceiling showcase a full, unobstructed view of the city and its scenery. At night, the whole thing is fully illuminated. There are also telescopes that give you a time travel feel. You can view pictures of the past, present and future. You can also walk up and down the area if you wish for careful scrutiny. You can even step out into the terrace and enjoy the open air with the most beautiful, sweeping view.

The experience itself is unforgettable, but you might want to take home a souvenir to commemorate it. Fortunately, there is a store At The Top where you can purchase one and show it off to your family and friends.

The entire tour lasts an hour but it is up to you to stretch the time if you wish before going back to base.

Burj Khalifa is truly awe-inspiring, an example of how innovative the real estate in the country can be. Making it your tour destination will give you further insight to the spectacular vision involved in its making.
