Large Wall Art Decor Ideas

January 5, 2009

A room’s, house’s, or office’s interior wall is actually like a blank piece of canvas. Put some artwork on it, and you can add character and details to any place in the house.

There are many ideas on how to creatively decorate your walls. Here are some of them.

1. Pictures

This is a traditional but time-tested way of decorating. Simply hang framed photos on the wall. Photos can be anything-family members and loved ones, memorable places where you went, or themed and carefully composed pictures of a certain subject. It is best if these pictures were blown up, or enlarged. It would probably be good if you keep the frame uniform; if you used a gold-leaf frame on a certain picture, all other pictures should use the same frame. Doing this effectively omits a look of chaos.

2. Paintings

This is another classical decoration. You can do either of two things: hang a large painting, or hang smaller multiple paintings. The two main criteria for selecting paintings are size and color. The painting should be too large that it will overwhelm the wall, nor to small to be lost in all other items.

Paintings should be hung in a way so that its center is at eye level. When choosing a painting for a large wall art d?cor, choose a bold color in your room or house and choose artwork that has that color in it. If you want muted colors, you may choose a black-and-white art with a light-colored mat or neutral colored frame.

Style should be consistent. For example, if your house or room is filled with antiques, the painting you choose may have antique-style frames.

3. Sculptures

Two-dimensional sculptures are also great for wall decors. Another idea is to surround a larger sculpture or painting with smaller ones. A good way of organizing such is to draw an imaginary rectangle and the part of the wall you want to focus on. Then fill that rectangle with a grouping of related art, in this case, sculptures.

4. Carpet and rugs

Beautifully designed carpets such as Persian rugs can be used as wall decors. Just make sure that it coincides with the theme of your room since these kinds of rugs usually have overwhelming designs. Please note that most Persian rugs are large and can dominate entire walls.

5. Unconventional materials

Do not limit yourself to paintings, photographs, and other classical art. You can use other materials. For example, an old wooden box can be repaired and hanged as a curio cabinet and a wall d?cor at the same time. Wooden blocks can be used as candle stands. A piece of weathered driftwood can be used to accent a wall. The possibilities are endless.

6. Wallpaper

Don’t forget this simple large wall art d?cor. Wallpapers can really define the atmosphere of a room. You can choose between plain colored ones for a simplistic design or a patterned one to establish a theme. There are endless styles available in home improvement shops

7. Lights

An artful display of lights is a contemporary wall d?cor art. Spotlights suspended on the ceiling project beams on the wall. Carefully arranged, the beams can form patterns, lines, and spots that are as effective as any painting. Spotlights can also be used to highlight particular pieces of artwork.

Office Art Wall and Other Ideas to Cheer Up Clinics

January 5, 2009

Most people dread going to clinics. Clinics are for the sick and the injured, and people, especially children, do not like the feeling of dread upon entering such facility.

Another factor why people do not want to go to clinics is because most of these offices lack a personal touch. The next time you go to a clinic, check out the walls and decors while waiting for your doctor to attend to you. You will notice that most have posters on walls dealing with cancer prevention, breastfeeding, reminders for checkups, warnings and details on certain diseases and vices, tips on how to live a healthy life, and others. These posters remind us of our frailty and vulnerability. Yes, we all agree that they are there for a good reason, but they give us a feeling of negativity and fear.

Just imagine, you are there to seek for help in getting treatment, worried about the illness you are afflicted with. Then you are bombarded with posters regarding illnesses! How would you feel?

Indeed, the clinic, or doctor’s office, can be a stressful, frightening place. We need something positive to make us feel good in this dreadful office. Wall art, for example, that is placed in these offices will surely help.

Positive decorations like artwork can calm down a patient and reduces his apprehension. Instead of being bombarded with messages of dread, why not instill a positive aura? Remember that patients are there because they know that they are sick; doctors don’t need to rub that fact in.

If you are a doctor and own a clinic, here are some ideas on how to make your clinic a more cheerful place.

1. Put up a sound system and pipe in soothing music. Good music always calms the heart and relaxes the soul. There are lots of instrumental, inspirational, and soft music available in CD stores. Or you can download an mp3 file from the Internet. Remember though that blaring music can cause more stress and can be annoying. Lower down the volume.

2. Repaint the entire office with a light color. A lighter color is easier to the eyes. Whites and yellows are okay, but pastels are also good choices.

3. Lighting plays an important part of calming a patient. Natural light coming through large windows is best, but this can be harsh during noontime, necessitating the use of blinds. Avoid harsh fluorescent lighting; use soft pin lights and spotlights instead.

4. Add delightful flowers and plants. They can surely add life to a dreary place.

5. You can replace medical posters with office art wall. You can also use art that depicts peaceful meadow-paradise scenes. Abstract or contemporary art is also a good choice. Abstract art, composed of patters which does not represent anything, will keep patients busy trying to interpret the painting. Choose something with soft, light colors.

6. If you do photography as a hobby, print and enlarge pictures. Frame them and hang them on walls. You can take pictures of something pleasant-flowers, scenery, a cute kitten or a puppy, a mother and a child.

Modern Metal Wall Art - Teaching Oneself to Embrace the Modern Concepts in Designing

January 4, 2009

Styles have changed over time. Some people might have preferred to stick with the old-fashioned designs but it is evident in certain homes and establishment that more and more people go for the trends of the today. Fashion and style has taken a complete 360 degrees turn when compared to the ones people have back in the early 1900s or even before that. Although various common city spots for tourists and other historical structures have not been touched or altered to adapt our modern perspective of art, it is rapidly gaining popularity. It is the commonly applied concept in other structures that are currently built.

The acceptance of these new trends is also a manifestation that their perspective of art has changed. People have embraced the concepts that are unique and strange yet beautiful in many ways. The big and the wooden are currently being replaced by lighter and metallic. New materials have evolved which we have not imagined could be feasible to use when it comes to interior designing. Even irregularities in shapes have become a great tool in making various rooms pleasant to the eye. These modern ideas and concepts have dominated our homes and even offices making them elegant and sophisticated.

A perfect example of this concept is the use of modern metal wall art. Before, our walls are simply decorated with paintings and other keepsakes that we bring home from our various journeys but now, metals are being bended, flexed, melted and hammered to create pieces that you will be priding on once displayed. They are very interesting to look at. No one, who notices it, will fail to pause for a while and admire its beauty. They come in all sizes. Those designs in forms of grilles that are commonly used to provide ventilation on rooms can be mounted on your walls, giving it a contemporary, Tuscany and even an elegant twist on your simple abode. These designs can blend unto almost all types of designs.

You can use these perfect home accents even if you prefer the traditional home designs. Colors on the metals are so lovely that does not make it rigid and stiff to look at. They also come in dimensions so that you can have more texture to your decorations. The use of these pieces in your homes or establishment gives a fresh perspective for your walls. However, you really need to have extra cash on your budget in order to afford this modern metal wall art.

You can make this investment if you are already to embrace the modern world. Whether it is a family home, a single person pad, public establishment or a private firm, can enjoy the beauty of these pieces. You can check out local art gallery for these unique pieces but the best way to shop for them is to look them up online. They can give you better discounts and a whole wide of selection. So if you are ready to make the change in your home, start with your walls and see if you like the feel of it.

How to Make a 3D Wine Wall Art Decor

January 4, 2009

Wall art can add character to any room in a house, room, or office. Wall art can be traditional, such as sculptures, emblems, paintings, pictures, or mosaics. They can also be contemporary such as an artful display of lights projected to a wall. There are also other wall decors that are totally spectacular. For example, in a hotel in Las Vegas, the wall behind the front counter is virtually an aquarium with all colorful fishes swimming around.

Some of the best wall arts are three dimensional. The wall art has depth, length, and width, making it viewable in all three dimensions. An example of a 3D wall d?cor would be real or artificial flowers carefully arranged and hanged on the wall.

An example of a good contemporary d?cor is a good 3D wine arrangement. This is especially nice if the homeowner is a wine enthusiast. A wall picture or a painting of a bottle of wine, wine glass, and flower arrangement does not even come close with a 3D wall d?cor.

Here is how to make such beautiful wine wall art d?cor.

1. First find a nice empty wine bottle. This is the centerpiece of the d?cor. Although a clear one would suffice, a colored bottle usually looks better. Look for a bottle with a nice, dainty, unique design; it will add more character to the decoration. It is up to you if you want to remove the label or not; however, it would give your wine bottle its own identity if you include the label.

2. Clean the wine bottle thoroughly with cool water. Do not worry about the label; the adhesive is tough and doesn’t dissolve easily. Dry the bottle completely.

3. Using water that is dyed with a dark color, fill the bottle halfway. This water represents the wine. Of course, it is perfectly okay to leave the bottle empty. Place a cork stopper to seal the water in. Set the bottle aside.

4. The next step is to prepare a flower arrangement. It is important to note that you should only use artificial flowers; real flowers wilt after a short time. Artificial flowers can be readily brought at a home improvement shop.

Arrange the flowers and the plants in an artful way, spreading out the blooms. The center area, from the top to the bottom of the arrangement, should be clear; this is where the side of the bottle is glued. You can have the flowers arranged yourself, or you can have a professional florist do it for you.

5. Glue the side of the bottle carefully to the flower arrangement, making sure it is centered. You should use epoxy or cynoacrylite; these adhesives are impervious to heat and water.

6. For this wine wall art d?cor, you may want to add other items, such as plastic grapes, artificial previous stones, and any accessory you can think off. Just be sure that they are firmly glue through the use of cyanoacrylite glue or epoxy.

7. Wrap a piece of wire around the neck of the bottle and form the remaining length to a hanger. Lift the arrangement on top of a soft surface to see if the wire can hold the entire arrangement’s lift. Wrap the wire with florist tape. Hang the bottle-and-flower arrangement on the wall.

Learn to Do Scrapbooking - All What You Need to Know About Building an Album From Scrapbook

January 4, 2009

Without the least of doubts, the art if creating an album is a pleasing, calming and creative thing. In fact, this is an act which should not only be engaged in for as pastime. You can also get into it for a living. This is something which prompts you to imagine things in another way that the ordinary man will fail to imagine. Remember that such a pastime goes beyond looking at the present, to making something memorable that can be reflected upon in the whole of one’s lifetime.

You can begin this art from a lot of angles. You can begin from a simple album making. What you should know about this is that this is not only simple, but it is one of those very ordinary methods employed to make an album and this is just the right thing for first time scrapbook makers who intend to take on the art as one of their favorite pastimes. This is especially recommended if you intend to blend two or more photographs on a sheet with one of two descriptions telling you something special about the pictures. Keep in mind that this type of album making is not one and the same thing with any normal album where pictures can be blended with some descriptions. In this type of album making, you are going to make use of a variety of souvenirs with some attractive items and these will be placed along with the pictures.

Different from other methods involved in creating scrapbooks, this album scrapbook does not call for so many things. Keep in mind that these inputs can be gotten anywhere within the house or from any shop that deals with the selling of local craft items.

Your first item should be a photograph album. This should be of any size or texture. It all depends on your taste; but it is common to find albums measuring not less than twelve inches on both sides to be used. Remember that you will be affixing more pictures as well as descriptions. Therefore, you will need more than enough space to covey what you have in mind.

In the same way as the sizes and textures of the scrapbook will vary, there are also many ways of covering the scrapbook album. Ahead of covering your album, you should know that the post-bound albums are amongst the most fashionable. Keep in mind that these are those albums with pages that can contain at least three pictures. These are normally enclosed with three metal posts. Remember that this is made so that you can easily alter the positioning of the pictures whenever you feel as to, and also gives you the chance of removing empty pages or adding extra pages to go well with your taste.

You can also opt for the 3-Ring Binders if you are a very fervent scrapbook maker. Remember that these will normally be held together by big rings; making it feasible to put in more and more pages as you would wish to. Keep in mind that with this type of style, a learner can be able to move to something greater.

After you are through with collecting your materials, you should begin reflecting on the type of decoration that should be included in the album. You must not go in for something very pricey. This will again depend on your taste and your budget. Remember that stickers are amongst the cheapest types of decorations on scrapbook albums. You can also cut out pieces of pictures or captions from magazines or rubber stamps. There are so many stickers that can be added. Your main aim is to make sure that they add to the beauty, not only in the appearance of your album, but in the message found in them.

Catchy, Interesting, And Historical Candle Phrases

January 4, 2009

Do to the fact that people like to use candles as a way of helping them relax, perhaps just sitting quietly with a candle and staring into its flame or in the bathroom while steaming in a hot tub of water—a phrase has been born—relaxing with wax. An older candle phrase—cannot hold a candle to means someone isn’t nearly as good as someone else, perhaps at doing something.

The Oxford Dictionary of Phrase and Fable states that there was a positive turn to this phrase, which began in the 16th century or at least it was written down then. The literal meaning was that an assistant held a candle that a superior worked by says Oxford. That is, an apprentice holding the candle for a tradesman with experience to see how to do the work. Many people have heard someone say that Elizabeth is attractive (or whomever), but she can’t hold a candle to Sarah. This expression is said to be of French origin.

Another expression is burning the candle at both ends. This usually means working and staying or just partying all the time. Not worth the candle is an expression that came about before 900 A.D. It means it isn’t worth the effort to try to get someone to see your viewpoint.

Another one is it is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness. The origin isn’t clear. Darkness is a well-known metaphor for evil. It seems that this age old phrase has a spiritual meaning and possibly a literal meaning too. John Kennedy paraphrased this old saying in one of his speeches. He said, “We are not here to curse the darkness; we are here to light a candle.”

Candles have been a part of mankind’s life for an extremely long time and in people all over the world have created candles in different versions. Different types of fat and oil have been the main ingredients in making these candles. People have needed something to light homes, temples, and churches and candles have filled the bill. The relationship between people and candles is ancient. Maybe that is why people still want candles in their homes even when they have electric lights. When gaslight was invented the phrase candlepower immerged. The illuminating power of the gas lamp was measured with a candle standard; candelas were the light of one candle.

Not surprisingly, the word candle has been used in reference to fireworks as in the Roman candle. It is shaped like a cylinder or basically a candle shape and it produces sparks.

People instinctively feel the ancient connection with candles, that may be one of he reasons that they like them so much. It is the important relationship between people and candles that have caused many candle phrases to come into the vernacular of a given time period and many of the phrases persist to this day. Candles have become part of the language and metaphor that we explain our lives through and express our feelings about certain things with the qualities of the lowly but triumphant candle.

Making Your Own Art Pieces

January 2, 2009

Do-it-yourself crafts have been gaining popularity for several years now. The reason behind this is that more and more people want to have something worthwhile to do during their free time. For example, if you are an aspiring artist, you might want to try to make your very own metal wall art. You can weld or solder the materials together to come up with an entirely different art. This may be hard to do at first. However, when you get the hang of it, you will have no worries about doing it again in the future.

If you really want to have your very own art piece, it is better that you sketch or draw what your product would be. It is easier to work on the item when you see what it needs to look like in the end. More so, you can make some changes along the way if you feel that your original design will not be possible. Improvising is definitely important here because there are times that you need to make do with what you have and try to make the most out of it.

Metal wall art is not only for your eyes only. You are making this because you want others to have a glimpse of the beauty of it. You exerted so much effort that it is natural that you share this with others. Not because you are, the one who made it automatically means that the pieces are for your view only. If you let your relatives and friends see it, they might like it and offer to buy it. At this point, it is your call. You can sell it and then make a different piece afterwards.

The beauty of handmade wall art is that nothing is the same. Even though they have the same design, if you look closely, there are some differences. The human is not capable of doing an exact replica of an item. Only the machines are capable of doing that due to their programming. Machines enable each piece to be the same in everything. If ever there are some items that do not meet the standard, they are sent back to be at par with the others.

Nevertheless, metal wall art does not work that way. Although some individuals want something nearly perfectly made, there are also those that prefer the ones with flaws. As they say, beauty lies in the beholder. Therefore, it is only what the person believes to be beautiful. It may be unconventional or odd for others, but for him, what he sees is something extraordinary. If what he makes is like trash to others, for him, it is his masterpiece. Do not argue with others if you say that what they made is ugly. Everyone is entitled to his or her own preferences and opinion so respect whatever they want. If you want to have another piece, make one yourself. There is no harm in trying because with your trials, you learn how to improve things.

Tips to Understanding Miniature Scales

January 2, 2009

Most people that are new to miniature games and collecting are not all that familiar with miniature scales. At first glance, it really looks more than a little confusing. But don’t let that put you off. With a little patience and some time invested in reading, you will have miniature scales down in no time. It helps to seek out some resources that are designed to be of assistance to beginners. That way it will walk you through rather than swarming you with overwhelming measurements and descriptions.

The definition of scale measurements for miniatures basically is that it is the defined difference between a real life sized object and its miniature counterpart. This would be like comparing a toy soldier to the human sized soldier it was modeled after. It really isn’t such a confusing concept when you understand what it is based on.

The easiest type of scales and one of the most common is when one inch is equal to one foot. This is often written in a ratio format such as 1:12. This shows the measurement in inches of one inch to twelve inch which is the same as one foot. When it comes to buying miniatures, you need to be aware of these different measurements and specifications.

The scale of 1:12 is the most commonly used form of scales when it comes to dollhouse measurements. Be prepared to see many things listed at this size. Unless you know of a different scale you wish to use, this is the best one to use as a standard measurement when you go out to purchase miniature items.

Of course it’s important to keep in mind that some dollhouse manufacturers produce their products using their very own scale. These scales do not always match up with the ones that are commonly used. If this is an issue for you, take care to always note the scales used by each manufacturer. It’s common to find some dollhouse pieces using a scale of 1:24 instead.

Gaming miniatures scales are quite different from those affiliated with dollhouses. The sizes used for gaming are for micro armour which gives the ratio of 1:300. Toy soldiers are quite a different size from dolls so it’s important to know the right scale sizes for all of the various miniatures that you might collect.

Though most scales are written in a ratio format, some of them are simply written as a height measurement. This is why you should be aware of scale size as well as inches and centimetres of your collectibles. This way you can avoid purchasing a piece that might look the right size but is not when measured.

You must watch miniature items carefully because many manufacturers are starting to make them a little bit bigger than before in order to create better detailing. This means that some scales being marketed as 1:15 may actually be 1:18 instead. Pay close attention to these types of details. Scales vary depending which type of miniature you collect. Once you get an idea how scales work, you will be ahead of the game in no time.
